CBA Commentary

According to the preliminary monthly results, annual aggregate after-tax profits of banks in Q1 2026 merged to 1.49% of Czech GDP from 1.48% in the previous quarter (a year ago, the annual aggregate reached 1.51%) and were above the long-term pre-Covidian average of 1.43% from 2008-2019. The banking sector achieved the highest profitability relative to GDP in 2012 at 1.56%, while the lowest ratio of 0.81% was recorded in 2020. The current profitability ratio roughly corresponds to the five-year pre-pandemic average (1.49% ). Over the last five years, i.e. from Q4 2021, the average annual profitability has reached 1.41% of GDP.
