CBA Commentary

In March, banks and building societies actually granted new mortgage loans without refinancing for CZK 40.3 billion. The volume of refinanced and increased loans (internally or from another institution) rose to CZK 15.1 billion in March. This is 113% above the average 7.1 billion refinanced last year and 285% above the 3.9 billion refinanced in 2024. The share of refinanced loans in total mortgage originations then rose to 27.3%, above last year's average of 20.7%. Overall, banks and building societies granted new and refinanced mortgages worth CZK 55.4 billion in March, 36.8% more than a month earlier. Their total volume so far this year has reached CZK 131 billion, which represents a 62% increase compared to January-March of the previous year.
